VL Automotive will !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! offer LS9 conversions for the Tesla Model S, because, y'know, why the hell not? That glorious body deserves a glorious drivetrain, and slapping a supercharged V8 under that hood is just the way we do things here in 'Murica. Godspeed you crazy bastard.

that looks like way too much work to be worth it. it would probably be easier to build a car from scratch. the Fisker swap made way more sense because it already had a front engine rear drive lay out. but this with the battery floor and to transmission tunnel no rear differential they would need new interior completely new suspension the only thing they would be saving is the body. they would have to sell it for like $250k just to break even.

I can't see this ever hapening

I bet an LS9 in that would drop the weight of the car by a few hundred lbs. Seeing as the battery alone weighs more than the engine AND transmission combined, (~500kg for the battery) it's just a question of whether the other drivetrain components weigh less than the electric motors, which I would almost bet is true.

I would guess that the Model S would come in at around 4200lbs and 660HP with the LS9 swap, making it considerably faster than the stock Tesla.

I dunno, the Model S drivetrain is pretty damn glorious. The P85 will do a 4.2 0 to 60.

If they do it, it will be more likely a Tesla Body and Interior adapted onto an entirely new chassis, probably based off either the Corvette, SS, or Camaro chassis, or something simple but with similar sub-frames for the engine. Reselling the rest of the Tesla equipment probably makes up a lot of cost of building the chassis, provided you'll find a buyer who will actually fund the conversion first.

4.2 seconds is "awesome" for a stock sedan, but in the world of motor swaps or performance builds, that's still "cute".

A swap lik ethis would drop the weight by about 200-400 lbs and increase the power by 250 equivalent HP.

This seems way to intense. Should have just bought up Fisker Karma instead!

No. That's dumb.

Nothing about this is appealing

Sure, it is a good looking car. But it does look somewhat like an early 2000s Ford Mondeo, just a bit more expensive.

It isn't pretty enough for anyone to want to do this. I hope...

Everyone who I know and know-of who has driven one loves the tesla and thinks its a game changer. I think cutting up integral subframes and structural supports just to make it less space ship like is bad and whoever buys this from bob should feel bad. Elon will not be on board either so prices will be ridicules

I suppose I should have been more clear in my point. 4.2 for a 100% EV that has a 250 mi + range is glorious, no 2 ways about it.

And its not "cute" at all - it is very awesome. While swaps are extremely cool, and crazy swaps even cooler, I don't believe we need to swap everything just because we can. Swapping an LS9 into Tesla Model S is the antithesis of everything a Model S is.

100% agreed. Its the antithesis of everything a Model S is.

I'm on the camp of "if someone will pay for it, why not?". Sure, it would diminish the idea of a what a Tesla Model S should be, but at the same time, people said the same thing about the Tesla Model S going against everything cars should be also.

There are plenty of stock Model Ss out there, and while I like them a lot, I don't think the world would be ruined if someone was able to pay their mortgage because someone else spent a lot of money to put an LS9 in one.

You're jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth.

I don't think anyone said the Model S is "against everything cars should be", if someone, anyone reputable really did say that, i'll eat my words. If anything, I think people thought Mr. Musk had an uphill battle ahead of him, which he did, but is winning the battle (the Friday close put the stock price at $170.01 - up 392% from this time last year)

OK - back to the point - If people will pay for it - then yeah, whatever, do it, go with your bad self, but do I honestly think people will pay the money to do this? Not at all. Everything about the Model S is built around the drivetrain and trying to accomplish this will more than likely be cost prohibitive to do in any sort of repeatable manner.
